NEED AN AWESOME SKETCHBOOK FOR YOUR GOUACHE JOURNEY?

To celebrate this occasion I have teamed up with Archer & Olive who create beautiful sketchbooks perfect for your Gouache journey. The paper is smooth and takes gouache beautifully. The colours are vibrant and you will have little to no buckling. And what's best, the price is sweet too. I created the little squirrel above on their sketchbook and I highly recommend it.

I contacted them a few months ago because I was impressed by the paper quality. So far I haven't found a sketchbook that took Gouache well. Most of the time the paper was either too thin or too textured. Once I saw their paintings on this sketchbook I knew this would be for you guys. They sent me a free one to test and I can say that I am very happy with it. It's great for opaque paintings like the one you will learn in Gouache for Illustrators. However, it is not meant to be used for watercolours or very watered down gouache. Please note that I am not getting any financial benefit from this recommendation. We only agreed to promote each other as an exchange.

I hope you will love the course and the sketchbooks as much as I do

New Gouache Speed Painting Video + Update

August 15, 2016 Romica Spiegl

Hey, there!

This is a short gouache speed painting video with a little bit of brush lettering (I'm still a beginner when it comes to brush lettering). I really enjoyed making this card for a friend's birthday with my lovely gouache paints.

You can find the list of materials and where to get them in the description of the video over at Youtube.

Update - Gouache Class for Beginners

I finished filming the bonus content for my upcoming online course for gouache beginners. Now it's time to edit, oh yeah. In the course you will learn how to paint a cute animal portrait with gouache from idea to finished painting and how to buy the right materials for you.

I want this, let me know

Pssst ...

There will be an early bird discount for people on my newsletter. So click that button above and be the first to know when the course launches.

Hope you have a lovely day,

Romica :)

Winner of the June Gouache for Illustrators Workshop

June 28, 2016 Romica Spiegl
Sloth ... by Michelle T.

Sloth ... by Michelle T.

Hi, there

I'm really happy to announce the winner of my 2 week workshop "Gouache for Illustrators" over at Skillshare. We had many wonderful people participating in this workshop, over 50 have signed up and we had more than 10 projects created.

Over 50 participants

Over 10 projects

1 winner

Michelle T. created a cute sloth inspired by the movie "Zootopia". Although she was chosen at random out of the final projects, I do think that Michelle created a prize worthy illustration. Her use of colours and highlights make this sloth really come to life and I wouldn't mind meeting this cute fella. She created a lot of depth in the eyes which really make them the centre of attention. Even though I did not cover composition in the class, Michelle created a very nice composition in her painting with the little sloth peeking out from the right corner, while leaving enough white space for the painting to "breath".

If you like to see the process, please have a look at Michelle's Project over at Skillshare.

The Prize

Michelle won 3 of my limited edition greeting cards which are prints of my Gouache illustrations. Every card comes with a nice brown Kraft envelope. In the class I'm teaching, I show you how I paint the cute hedgehog and how to confidently create your own gouache illustrations.

Want to create cute illustrations yourself?

If you are interested in learning Gouache more in-depth make sure you sign up for my Gouache newsletter ... pssst something bigger is going to happen in about a month.

Ooooh, i like surprises

Want to be part of the next workshop?

I will hold another workshop near the end of July, sign up to the newsletter here to get notified about upcoming courses and workshops here.

I Love Gouache, Let me know what's up

See you soon,

Romica :)
